What to expect at a Catholic church
Catholic parishes hold Mass, the main gathering, every weekend: usually Saturday evening (the Sunday ‘vigil’ Mass) and several times on Sunday, often with weekday Masses too. A Mass follows a set order of readings, prayers and communion, and usually runs 45 to 60 minutes. Visitors are welcome to attend and take part in the singing and prayers; it’s normal to stay seated or come forward for a blessing at communion if you aren’t receiving it. Many parishes also have Masses in other languages.
A general description; every church is different. Each church's page uses its own words.
